Ontario’s Wye Marsh - Bee School“Buzzing and Hooting” at Midland Ontario’s Wye MarshMidland, Ontario – February 2006 – Visitors to the Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre will receive a real lesson in the “Birds and Bees” during the month of February. A Great Horned Owl “Andy” has been added to the ‘Birds of Prey’ show every Sunday between 1:00 and 2:00. Andy will also be available for viewing daily during the week and make appearances at the Birds in Flight education programs. Great Horned Owls are the largest in North America and best know for the large tufts of feathers. Andy has a wing span of more than 4 feet and stands about 2 feet in height and he is a vocal hooter. Andy is on loan to the Marsh from Bird Control International.Great Horned Owl ''Andy'' The buzz is starting as the “Bee School” will take place on February 11 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. This school is for anyone interested in the hobby of Bee Keeping, or as a general interest in the process involved in setting up bee hives, and processing honey. Beekeeper Laurie Schutt (Executive Director at the Wye Marsh) has been a beekeeper for more than 10 years. “Bee behavior is fascinating and I am learning new things every year,” states Schutt. The Wye Marsh has an indoor observation hive, allowing visitors to safely take a look at the life of a bee. Cost for the Course is $25.00-cdn and lunch is provided.
