A beehive filled with honeybees was taken sometime overnight Thursday from the backyard of Connie and Dennis Kletzing on Scottdale-Everson Road in Upper Tyrone Township, according to state police at Belle Vernon.

Connie Kletzing said the theft is the second of its kind. Last fall, she said, someone backed a truck into her backyard and stole a 2 1/2-foot high beehive that also contained bees.

She believes whoever took the second hive just walked off with it because there were no vehicle tracks left behind.

The first theft cost the family several hundred dollars because Dennis Kletzing had built and painted the hive from a kit he had purchased. Connie Kletzing said the hive was filled with 3 pounds of honeybees, also purchased.
