2010 Packages Bees & Nucs

We are happy to be able to offer package bees and a limited number of nucs this year:

3lb Georgia Packages with Italian Queens, Pickup Only - $70
These 3lb Packages with Italian Queens from Gardner's Apiaries are offered by Tony Rimpkus. They will be trucked in with 4 pickup dates from late March to early May. They can be picked up here at Honey Run Apiaries and in the Cincinnati and Tipp City areas. Payment is required in advance and orders should be placed with Tony Rimpkus directly.

* Note: For the early pickup dates it is recommended that the bees be installed on drawn comb with plenty of feed because the weather is often poor and bees are reluctant to build comb in cooler weather.

2lb California Package , Pickup Only, Payment in full due upon order - $74.
These packages are are trucked in from California and will be available for pickup mid to late April though the timing will vary considerably depending on the weather. We try to get Carniolan queens but due to limited availability we cannot guarantee if we will receive Carniolan or Cordovan Italian queens.

We have been very happy with these packages in the past. In 2007 all packages we installed the 3rd week of April produced more than 80lbs of honey each by August, and most put on an additional super of honey on the goldenrod flow. Of course with all beekeeping, this is highly dependent on your local weather and honey flow.

6 +3 Medium Frame Nucs, Pickup Only - Very Limited Quantities - SOLD OUT
We will have a limited number of nucs available for 2010 starting in late May. They are stocked with 6 frames of bees, brood and honey, a new marked 2010NWC queen, 3 additional new frames with foundation in a standard 10 frame medium box. The box is painted and ready to be used on your hive, no need to transfer frames. Just place it on your bottom board (after removing the temporary bottom board and top) and add additional brood boxes and supers as needed. Those wishing to use deep brood boxes may just place their deep boxes on top and rotate the boxes once the queen has moved up.

Because we are switching to medium frames only for all boxes including the brood chamber, deep nucs will not be available this year.

6 frame nucs with 3 extra new frames with foundation in a standard 10 frame medium box (painted). Comes with temporary bottom board and top for transportation.

Starter Hive - $140 - SOLD OUT
Includes a medium frame nuc as above plus a screened bottom board, inner cover and telescoping cover. For an addition $9 the all season inner cover may be included instead of the telescoping cover.

Deluxe Starter Hive - $230 - SOLD OUT
Includes a medium frame nuc as above plus a screened bottom board, inner cover and telescoping cover PLUS 3 complete medium supers with frames and foundation, assembled, painted and ready to use. For an addition $9 the all season inner cover may be included instead of the telescoping cover.
